Those that have gone through the Confirmation preparation program at St. Leo’s have had very
positive comments and have encouraged others to take advantage of this time to learn more
about God, church and themselves. |

Preparing for the Sacrament of
Confirmation Attention
high School juniors: Have you ever
asked why the Catholic faith does this or that? Have you ever wondered what God is all
about or why we need Jesus in our lives?
What does it mean to be a disciple of Christ? |

Confirmation
preparation is a time to ask and seek / challenge and explore and prepare for
an important step in your
faith journey, “The sacrament of Confirmation.” If you
are a junior and have already been confirmed, you are invited to refresh your
faith by participating in this
ministry. We have had other confirmed
juniors who have taken this option
and been thankful for the opportunity. The
first question I hear from young people about Confirmation is, “Why do I have
to be Confirmed?” This is a great and expected question that
cannot and will not be answered with, “Just because.” During Confirmation preparation at St.
Leo’s, juniors are invited to explore and experience their faith as they
prepare for young adulthood. In the celebration of the sacrament
of Confirmation, “the initiation in the Christian life is completed so that believers
are strengthened by the power from heaven, made true witnesses of Christ in word and deed, and bound more closely to
the church”
(from The Rites of the Catholic Church). This is a major and important objective for
our young people. To
prepare for and understand this important sacrament, youth will become
Confirmation candidates during
their junior year of high school. The
candidates will attend 12 preparation sessions on Sunday evenings, beginning
in October and continuing through April. There
will be a break during the summer and we will reconvene in with a retreat
tentatively set for early August.
After two more Sunday evening sessions in August, the sacrament of
Confirmation is celebrated in early September. |
