Dear Music Ministers,
On the opposite side please find the schedule for August and September. I have tried to honor everyone’s requests. If I missed someone’s needed dates off I’m sorry. It’s hard to juggle so many schedules around and then you add other ministries to the mix pretty soon you are seeing green. J Ha!
So, please feel free as always to trade with someone.
New
Roman Missal
Father is away this week at a Liturgy Convention. He and I will be meeting
next week about the Roman Missal changes. I am not sure what direction he is
going to go with this. All of the parish music directors in the Grand Island parishes
have agreed to learn the same Mass parts-----Dan Schutte’s: Mass of Christ
the Savior. If you have not gotten you copy of the CD and the sheet music,
please stop by my office to get a copy soon.
Bishop Dendinger was at the meeting in North Platte. He explained that we are now permitted to begin teaching our people after September 1st (with the emphasis on the word AFTER. This way our people have some of it learned before the first Sunday of Advent. But nothing of the new translation can be used before the 1st Sunday of Advent during Mass. Only outside of Mass may we teach it.
A further Crimp is that Father Torpey has told me he doesn’t know what he wants to start with and that he will make that decision. So, I guess we just be ready for when he decides to start all this and what he wants to learn first. I am suggesting that you continue to learn the new M ass and be ready for when the time comes.
The bishops and liturgist are really pushing the return to chanting various parts of the Mass. As a matter of fact those parts can be found at the National Pastoral Musicians web-site: www.npm.org. Father Torpey has indicated he will probably be using some of those chanted parts. Again I will know more after next week and our meeting. I will keep you informed.
Please remember one of music ministers in your prayers. Janelle Armstrong was diagnosed with breast cancer this past month. I am told she is recovering from surgery and will have to do chemo and radiation therapy.
